6th Grade Math
We should know the following:
Order of Operations
GEMS (Grouping Symbols, Exponents, Multiply or Divide (whichever comes first from left to right), Add or Subtract (whichever comes first from left to right))
PEMDAS (Parentheses, Exponents, Multiply or Divide (whichever comes first from left to right), Add or Subtract (whichever comes first from left to right))
Mister C - Order of Operations Song
"Order of Operations Rap" by NumberRock
Exponents (the base times itself the exponent number of times)
"Powers" - a Math8 Song
"It's All About the Base Times the Base" - Dylan Peters
Whole number and variable expressions
Just a start with understanding variable expressions.
Long Division with Whole Numbers
(Divide, Multiply, Subtract, Bring Down, and repeat as needed)
(Whole Numbers have a decimal behind them and as many zeros behind the decimal as needed)
"Long Division Style" -
"Long Division Song" - (Ho Hey Parody) Dylan Peters
Decimal Addition and Subtraction
(Line up decimals and place values.)
(Make sure the correct number (first #) is on top.)
(Bring the decimal straight down.)
"Adding & Subtracting Decimals Song" by NumberRock
Decimal Multiplication and Division
(Multiply like normal, Add your numbers, Count your decimals, Place decimal in product.)
(Division - Frist number goes in the house. Can't divide by decimal. Move decimal to make a whole number divisor and move the same in the house. Bring decimal up on the roof. Divide like normal.)
"Operation: Operation Decimal" by Andrew Austin
Later we will Learn:
Frequency Tables
(Frequency is the number of times each option was chosen.)
Line Plots
(X's or Dots represent the frequency of each option.)
Bar Graphs
(The bar height or length represents the frequency of the data.)
Mean, Median, Mode, and Range
(Mean = Average, Median = Middle, Mode = Most, Range = Highest Data - Lowest Data)
Mean, Median, Mode Song
Mean, Median, Mode Rap
Hey Diddle, Diddle, the Median is the Middle
